Pros and cons of Spanish in a Month: Grammar app for iPhone and iPad

Spanish in a Month: Grammar app good for

I appreciate the manner in which this app introduces new words and the flash card style of learning. Well worth the price of admission!
I think this is a really good app that has the potential to be great. Ive learned more Spanish in the last 3 hours than I learned in a semester of Spanish in Junior High. The free version of this app may scare some people because it jumps pretty fast into some more difficult sentences that you cant fully understand by the end of the free version. This appears to be because they want to show you that the lessons do get more difficult, but they neglect to tell you that they actually skipped teaching you some of the intermediate levels. This leaves you thinking that you may be totally lost in the full version. I was pleasantly surprised to find that by the time I had reached those more advanced sentences in the paid version that I fully understood them because I had now gone through the content that had been left out of the free version. The app is good because it moves at a nice fast pace that doesnt really let up, so you end up spending more time playing with it than you expected to. Of course that brings up its first potential point to move it from a good app to a great app. Potential improvement #1: It lacks the ability to pause the app. If my kids start talking to me in the middle of the app explaining the different pictures, I have no way of pausing the app so that I dont miss one of the explanations while dealing with the child. The only way to pause the app is to press the home button and leave the app. It needs a pause button. Potential improvement #2: This is the big one for me. I cant turn off the explanations before being quizzed. For the first time through the app it is great (and a requirement to understand it). But if I want to go back through the lessons a day or so later to make sure that I can still remember what I learned a few days ago, the program forces you to go through the explanations again. This causes the information to be placed back in my short term memory and doesnt allow me to test my long term memory. The program REALLY needs a quiz mode where it only asks the questions and shows the pictures without explaining them so that you can test your long term retention. Without it Im forced to put the phone down so I cant see the pictures while it is explaining them while I wait for it to enter the quiz stage. This just wastes my time and slows down the rate that I could be learning. Add the ability to turn off the explanations and operate strictly in quiz mode and I would give this app five stars. The best would be the ability to turn this on and off inside the application at any point in time. This would allow me to start the app at lesson 1 and quiz myself all the way up to where I left off the time before. I could then immediately resume with the new material at my current spot in the lessons. Potential improvement #3: Add the ability to repeat the current explanations. As mentioned in potential improvement #1, if my kid interrupts me during the explanation portion, there is no way to have the app repeat the explanation for the current 6 photos. I can click on an individual photo and hear the sentence, OR I can click on an individual photo and read the sentence, but there is no way to hear it in the order and way that it was originally presented without starting the whole lesson over again. Now if there was only a German version I would really be happy.
If I have had this app when I was a kid, I can speak more than 4 languages now..
Got the free app and enjoyed the method so much, went right for the complete course. The combination of the visual, audio and written forms make for fast & easy learning. Thank you!!!
I almost never write things up, but this app is a keeper...i checked out several other spanish courses...this one is way better than the rest...good job!
I am enjoying learning Spanish with this app. I tried the free version with three lessons and decided to get the full app. Each day I do the previous days lesson and a new lesson. I am excited to see where I am after 30 lessons. In three month I am off to Spain.

Some bad moments

For the most part it works well, but the tenses page tends to mark most of the right answers as wrong which means you do not get to advance an the questions end up repeating.
Liking the concept, but it is supposed to speak and doesnt! I dont have any sound at all. Highly disappointing.
